ing them to erect lamp posts at all
railroad street crossings.
The Committee raising aid for
Chicago, were granted the use of the
North end of the Market House, in
which to deiosit provisions, etc.,
collected.
An ordinance prohibiting persons
nsing water from public cisterns, was
passed by the unanimous vote of
Council.
A resolution was passed directing
the City Commissioner to repair
Washington street forthwith, using
stone from the city quarry.

Baltimore Ohio Railroad. We
are happy to be able to announce that
the project to build a road from Pitt-i-burgh
to Chicago, In th Interest of
the Baltimore A Ohio Railroad, is in
an assured shape. The work on the
Western Division, from the Lake
Erie Division formerly the Sandus
ky, Mansfield A Newark R. R. west,
wi'l be commenced this winter, and
the road is to be completed before
January 1, 1873. The probable route
of the road will be from Plymouth
tl trough Attica, Republic and Tiffin,
the latter city sure and then take the
old Ft. Wayne road bed west. The
exaotline west of Festoria, we are
not posted upon, but the road strikes
Defiance, A gentleman named Key-
ser has been elected second Vice Pres
ident of the Baltimore A Ohio Road,
and will have exclusive charge of the
construction of the road; and, a3 that
company has appropriated $2,000,003
towards this part of the road and ex
pect to, and will, raise an equal
amount along the line, it is easy to
see that the matter is iu good shape
and the project assured.
Attica lias already raised $22,000 for
the road. That was done in one day,
and leaves them but $S,P30 to have
their quota. We presume that soon
an attempt will be made to raise mon
ey at other places.
The Baltimore A Ohio Company is
one that makes but llttic fuss over its
projects, but pushes them in the most
vigorous manner and don't know such
a word as rau.
Photography. The Piatt Photo
graph Company have engaged the
rooms in tha third story of Empire
Block for a Photograph Gallery and
will have it fitted up for work by the
15th of this month. This company,
of which L 8. Piatt, late of Chicago,
is the business manager, and who is
making arrangements for the Gallery
in Tiffin, aro establishing galleries in
different towns in this section, will
have a central gallery now at San-
dusky in some town where will be
ttmployed artists who fully understand
the art of re-touching negatives,
paintinjt In India ink, and coloring
with rrayon,' ete. This will enable
people; by .having their pictures taken
at any one of the galleries and sent to
the central gallery to secure just the
kind of pictures they want This
is a novel idea, but one that will le
successful.

Mr. Ph. Seewald has removed, the
old frame hotna on the rear of his lot
on Madison street, and will at once
erect a neat brick house, which he
proposes to occupy about Jan. 1st, as
be has sold bis residence on the cor
ner to Mr. Yeager, a gentleman from
Pennsylvania.
Be TO? ting. A woman, with a child
about six weeks old, was put in jail
here on Tuesday on the charge of in
cest with a brother. She belongs in
the west part of the county and lived
with a sister and two brothers in one
family. All are charged with this re
volting crimeagainst the laws of God
and man, and the three have fled.
We refrain from giving the nimes of
the parties at present.
Trait Trees. Mr. J. T. Norris,
Ageuti of Springfield, O., will offer for
sale in Tiffin, on Friday and Saturday,
Nov. 10th and 11th a large stock of all
kinds of fruit tree, grape vines, etc.

flour, salt pork, cabbage, turnips, on
ions, beans, dried corn, etc., etc.:
clothing, of any and all descriptions,
from trie infant to the full grown
adult; bedding, agricultural imple
mentsin fact all the necessaries or
life, or what these necessaries can le
gained by. Money will also be receiv
ed and will be ucd to prepare cloth
ing, etc. It will be seen that the la
dies, the rich man, the man in mod
erate circumstances, the farmer, the
merchant, the manufacturer, the me
chanic, the day laborer all cao con
tribute according to ttieir means.

California. Our citizens much regret

sion, as he was probably not excelled
by any dentist in the State.
Mr. James R. Williams has erected
a nice brick residence on McDou-al
street.
Fires are still raging in many parts
of Wood county and much damage
lias been done to property. Large
numbers of men, in many instances,
have volunteered and gone out to en
deavor to check the fires, and have, to
a great extent been successful.
Mr. James Foreman, of Wood coun
ty. I understand, has rented the Ev
erett House in this place. "Jim." is
"some" as a landlord, and will un
doubtedly make it rin- Major Bron
son, who has been conducting the ho
tel for some time past, retires with the
best wishes of his numerous friends.
It is now almost reduced to a cer
tainty that the Lake Erie Louisville
Railroad will be extended from Find-
lay to Cam bridge, Indiana.
The butchers of Fostoria will give a
ball, at Liberty Hall, on Wednesday
evening, ov. 'mi. lour correspon
dent has not yet been informed as to
what the refreshments will consist of
whether of round or sirloin steak,
bologna, beef soup, pork, mutton,

Mr. Dewit, of Elmore, Ohio, has
rented a room in Hale's block, and, I
understand, has purchased the entire
stock of glass and queensware of all
our merchants in town, and will here
after have entire control of that
branch of business. He will Import
all his goods. Mr. Dewit comes well
recommended as a good business man,
and will undoubtedly succeed. His
stock will be one of. the largest In
Northwestern Ohio.
Our town people are now supplied
with a good quality of wood. The
roads being good, farmers are enabled
to draw large loads. There never has
been so much wood in town this clme
of the year as at present.

The Scientific class, of the N. W.
Normal school will give public literary
entertainments at the Town Hall,
Friday and Saturday evenings of this
week.
Owing to the crowded state of our
columns, we are obliged to omit the
programme, which consists of original
essays by the students. The enter
tainment will be excellent. Ens.
An admission fee of twenty-five
ceuts for the two evenings, or fifteen
cents for one, will be charged and the
proceeds applied to the support of the
Reading Rsom, under the manage
ment of the Rapuhlic Literary In
stitute. Tills room is located in the Town
Hall building, where ladies and gentle
men from the village or country can
find a good selection of reading matter.
One daily, one trl-weekly,; one month
ly and twelve weekly periodicals are
received regularly, and more have
been ordered.
A library of about fifty bound vol
umes, which have beeu donated and
in addition the township school library
of 200 volumes are connected with the
room. This is but a nucleus of what'
it Is designed to be, ,as noon as the
fundi? of the Institute will permit.
At the close of the Baptist Sabbath
school, last Suuday morning, Miss A.
M. Platte, the Superintendent was
presented with a fine Photograph

presentation was made by the pastor,
Rev. H. Hall, and Miss Platte made
an appropriate reply
Mr. and Mrs. John Dana, of this
place left their home last week for the
state of Florida, 'where they propose
to spend the winter.
The walls of the new brick block are
nearly completed. The galvanized
Iron cornice Is quite showy.
The repairs on the Methodist Church
have commenced In earnest. A rew
toof will be put on, tuo walls replas
tered, the arrangements for warming
improved, and if sufficient funds can
be raised the house will be repainted
and blinds put on the windows. It
will be for the credit of the town and
for the credit and comfort of the con
gregation to have these improvements
made, and the trustees should not be
allowed to stop for want of money un
til the work is accomplished.
The new boarding hall, erected by
Prof. Richard for the use of students
of the Normal School, is partially
ready for use and will soon ,be com
pleted. It will accommodate thirty
two occupants.
The second erm of the school open
ed on Tuesday 1th a good attend
ance. Miss Matthews, a graduate of
the S. W. Normal School, took her
place as one of th teachers
The Good Templars, or tins place,
are holding a series of babbatit eve
ning temperance meetings. The first
was addressed by Rev. Wm. Kepler,
the second by Rev. R. Wilcox, both of
whom had good audiences and did
good work for the cause. The next
meeting will beheld at the Presbyter
ian church next Sunday evening, at
which time Rev. J. K. Eckman will
preach a temperance sermon.
The "Immortal J. N." was annon ne
ed to speak at the Methodist church,
in this place, last Saturday evening

It is presumed that the "world re
nowned orator" could not "stanu the

vantage of a "let up" in the market,
and laid in heavy stock of goods,
feeling assured that they would ma
terially increase in price. His prog
nostications were correct, as prices
