of Mr. Join. Lininger, which occurred
nt his residence, near the Indian Mill,
on Friday morninx.last. Mr. Lininger
was a very industrious honorable gen
tleman, raised a large family and accum
n luted considerable property. His age,
we should judge, was ubout'tifty.
We are informed that a certain gen
tleman once contracted a debt and o:i be
ing dunned fo'r it, refused payment, by
saying that he wasn't of age .when the
debt was ma!e. Whether said debt was
afterwards paid or not, we don't know
nor care.

day the hitter part of last week, a man

Wheel Company, alter being paid olf.
claimed that he was sick and loafed about
the boardins house. While suffering un
der the assumed sickness, he appropri
ated an entire suit, besides an overcoat
belonging to the agent, Mr. McPBerson,
and also a pairof pantaloons and a pock
et knife belonging to other parties and
then having entirely recovered from his
sickness, put for parts unknown. The
value of the articles stolen is abont six
ty dollars. The sneak thief did his work
in broad daylight.

Store, opposite the Court House in a
blaze.
A boy had dropped a chandelier of
coal oil lamps to tbe floor, and the

threatening destruction to the build
ings. 'Prompt and energetic meas
ures were resorted to by the neigh
bor3 anil passers-by, and the flames
speedily went out, leaving only oil
stains to mark their late presence.

The extensive tannery of Mr. D.
Harter Newville, Richland county was
burned to the ground on Sunday
morning last, incurring the loss of the
whole building and stock. No insur

have originated from one of the stoves

Fatal Self Shooting a most la
mentable occurrence took place near
this citv on Satur lay last, A young
man named Otis Perry left his resi
dence in the city with tho avowed
purpose of going out gunning, taK
ing with him a single barreled shot
gun. After having been gone some
little time, and having partially as
eended the Lilt near the reservoir, on
J C. Kinkead's farm, his gun was dis
charged, and it is said the young man
was seen to fall, by Mrs. Wm. Redd,
residing near by. Those who repair
ed to tho spot found young Perry
dead, the whole charge of the gun
haying entered his mouth, passing up
ward and lodging in the brain. lie
was found with the boot and socc of
his right foot off. which gave rise to
conjectures that the. act was one of
suicide. Coroner Schleich summon
ed a jury and held an inquest, resul
ting in a verdect substantially to that

Accidentally Shot. A eon of
John McGee, of Elmore, wa9 acci
dentally shot, on Sunday 'last, by the
discharge of a pistol, with which he
was playing. The shot lodged in bis

road, injuring an arm so as to require
