Section 1. Be it enacted by tbe General
Assembly of the State of Tennessee, That

the sales so made by the Commissioners, in
wliich was reserved to him or them, the
option of taking the State's interest, should
elect to take tbe interest of the State, then
said sale is hereby ratified, sanctioned and
confirmed; and said Commissioners are
hereby authorized and fully empowered to
place tbe s.iiil purchaser or purchasers in
full possession of said road, so purchased,
and all its appurtenances in the manner pro
vided for in section one and two of an act
passed July 3, 1870, entitled "an act author
izing the sale and transfer of the interest
of the State in delinquent railroad coinpan-
ies," any act or acts with regard to the
qualification or appointment of Receivers,
to the contrary notwithstanding.
Sec "J. Be it further enacted, that in any
instance" where the said Commissioners, in
cluding specially tbe Governor, Comptroller
and Secretary of State, may have contracted
to sell 'the railroad .tracks, railing, rolling
stock, etc, of any railroad company which for
two consecutive years prior to said sale may
have failed to pay the interest accrued upon
the bonds loaned to it by the State, and
i which may 'liave accepted aid from tbe
State under an act passed Dec 7, 1867,
u entitled "an act to amendrtbe lnternal Im
provement laws of tbe State, passed Feb.
ll,1852,"in such case the sale so made shall
"be valid and operative as against the State
and said company to all intents and pur-
-poses, to-transfer (without warranty of
title to the interests of said company) said
railroad track, railing, rolling stock, etc, to
the purchaser or purchasers in said sale.
Sec. 4. Be it further enacted, That
upon the consummation of the sale of any
railroad, or the State's interest therein, that
may have been leased by act of the General
Assembly with the reserved right to the
State to determine the same then the said
leaie"sha!I hktah'tly terminate; and tbe
State be no further liable for. any expendi
tures by tbe lessee upon said railroad, nor
for any 'further losses resulting' thereafter
from the operation of the same.

State, municipal or local authorities. The Com
missioner of Internal Revenue rules that this ex
emption embraces the interest as well as princi
pal Of the new bonds, and that this interest need
not be Included in the amount upon which a div
idend or other taxes are required to be paid.

The stock market opened weak, and so continued
until after the first Board, when It began to Im
prove, and was strong until afternoon, then it
became heavy, with a general decline In prices;
There was more pressure to sell, and the decline
ranged from V to 1,. being most marked In
Northwest Common, Wabash, It. L, St Pauls
Common and Ohios. The principal dealings of
the day were in Northwest Common, Wabash,
R. I. and Ohios. Chicago and Northwest Co.
declared a dividend of 3),' per cent on preferred
stock, and passed dividend on Com. stock.
This action created considerable disappointment,
and In connection with increased activity in
money, had much to do with the change iu spec
ulative feeling from bull to bear. Money this
morning was easy at 5 to 6 per cent; later In the
dav loans were made as nigh as 7 per cent in
Soid. Southern State securities on last call were

An act to amend an act approved Dec: 20, 1870,
to establish tbe county of Bety.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General
Assembly of the SVite of Tennessee, That
an act passed Dqc 16, 1870, and approved
Dec 20,: 1870, entitled "an act to establish
the county of Bell" be, and' the same is
hereby so amended, that foe the purpose of
ascertaining tbe number of q.ua'biied voters
residing jn those portions of the counties of
JIcNairy, Hardeman and Fayette compos
ing Bell county; that the Commissioners
appointed by said act or a majority of them,
shall meet at some convenient point within
said proposed new county, and shall appoint
a census taker for each of said fractions,
whose duty it shall be, after first being duly
sworn by some Justice of the Peace, or oth
er person authorized to administer oaths,
to act impartially, and to make true re
turns, to proceed at once to take anenuraer-
ative census of the qualitied voters residing
in each of those fractions, and said census
takers, so appointed, when they have com
pleted said census lists, shall make out du
plicates thereof, one of which they shall
file with the Clerk of the County Court of
each of the old counties from which frac
tions are to be taken and tbe other to be
filed with the Commissioners.
Sec 2. Be itYurther enacted, That on
receipt of said census returns by said Com
missioners, that they proceed to open and
hold an election as provided for in the
fourth section of the act this is intended to
amend, and if a constitutional majority of
the voters in each fraction be in favor of the
county of Bell, then said new county of
Bell is hereby declared to be a new county,
with all the privileges, powers and advanta
ges, and subject to all tbe liabilities of other
counties hi this State; then and in that case
tho said Commissioners shall proceed to or
ganize the same in strict conformity with
the act this is intended to amend.
Sec. 3. Be it further enacted, That
should a conflict of territory arise between
the county 01 lieu and the proposed new
county of Nashoba, then, and in that case,
the commlssoners of each shall meet and
appoint a competent surveyor to establish
the line between said counties But in no
event shall said line be established so as to
reduce Bell county below tbe constitutional
limit for the establishment of new counties,
nor to infrince upon the constitutional I
rights of Fayette county, and that the line
thus established shall be deemed the west
ern boundary of Bell county and sliall gov
ern all their action of organization and jur
isdiction of the same; Provided, that the
commissioners designated in the law tliat
Oils act is intended to amend shall have
power to fill any vacancy that may occur in
their body, by death, resignation or refusal

Courts in and for the 11th Judicial Circuit
Section 1. Be it enacted by tlie Genera
Assembly of tlie State of Tennessee, that
tbe Circuit Courts for the 11th Judicial
Circuit of this State shall be held as follows:
Wayne county, first Monday of January,
Hay and September.
Lewis county, second Monday of January,
May and September.
Hickman county, third Monday in Janu
ary, May and September.
Perry county, fourth Monday in January,
May and September.
Decatur county, first Monday in Februa
ry, June and October.
Henderson county, second Monday in
February, June and October.
McXairy county, fourth Monday in Feb
ruary, June and October.
Hardin county, first Monday in March,
July and November.
And that all recognizances and bonds for
the appearance of defendants or witnesses
at any other time than herein specified, shall
be held good and binding against the parlies,
and the Clerks of the courts are authorized
to renew said recognizances and bonds to
the first term of the court held after this act
goes into effect, and all summons or other

Indigestion Is not dangerous, say the faculty.
Perhaps not in itself, while it remains mere in
digestion; but look at the crasequeriees to which
it may lead, and often does lead when It becomes
chronic disease. A spark of tire Is a small
