Stark County Teachers' Institute.
Pursuant to a call from the Executive
Committee, the Stark County Teachers'
Association met in Navarre, on Monday,
16th lost, for the purpose of holding an
InstitaU daring the week. The attend
ance was unusually large; oyer one hun
dred and fifty teachers were present from
different parts of the county. Sessions
were held during the forenoon, afternoon
.and evening of each day. Instruction in
Penmanship was riven by Smith, of
Canton; in English Grammar by Supt.
Dressier, of Alliance in Geography and
History bysJsupt. Jone3, of Massilion j" in
Theory and Practice by Supt-.Worley, of
Canton in Arit hmetic! and Geography by
Alex. Ferbea,-f Cleveland, and Prof. J. A,

The First Grand Bazaar Ever Held
in Canton.
The Ladies ef the St John's Congrega
tion will hold a grand Baiaar in Schaefer's
Opera House, commencing on the 6th of
November and continuing for one week.
Thevre makintr active preparations to
render it the most attractive and superior
to anything of the kind ever before held
in our eity. Some of the principal fea
tures of the occasion are, an elegant Gas
Sign to be voted to the most popular store
in the citv a splendid Silver Show case
to be voted to the most popular Book
Store in the city. A vote will also be ta
ken on the most popular Drayman, (the
clothes donated by fil. Kubman).
Valuable premiums are being offered
to the ladies soliciting tbe greatest num
ber of votes and also a silver watch to the
gentleman obtaining the largest number
on the most popular store.
Our citizens will now have a chance to
express their regard for their merchant
friends. The length of the sign for the
"most popular store" is 16 feet and will
be put up ready for lighting without any
expense to the store.

good fires are the order. In what condi

The parents of the deceased were among th
pioneer settlers of Stark county, having located in
Canton in 1S07. Mrs. Allen was born on thegsth
of June. J.S08 was the second white child born In
Canton. She was long and favorably known here,
in the place of her nativity, and leaves many
friends and acquaintances of former years to
mourn her death. She removed from this place
with her family about fifteen years ago, and after
a residence ef a few years in Cleveland, went to
California, where she buried her husband about
sight years ago, and has resided with her son and
4anghter in the city of San Francisco,
