County under martial law.
Later.?The proclamation has been
promulgated. It releases Marion County,
and says: "Whereas, It hus been asforbiiiii'd

and conspiracies of the character and to
the extent and for the purposes described
in said proclamation in the County ol
Union, S. C., do exist; now therefore,"
fee. It is stated that a clerical blunder,
in writing Marion for Union in the former
proclamation, necessitates the supplemental
proclamation.
The board of supervising inspectors
adjourned tine die, and their proceeding?
have been approved bv the Secretary of
the Treasury. They designated different
life-saving apparatus, with a view to protect
steamboats passengers against monopolists.
The inspectors did not discriminate
in favor of any patent, but asserted
general and specific requirements,
applicable to all vessels propelled in part
i>r whole by steam. They adopted instructions
to local inspectors and additional
rules, all having in view the strict
enforcement of the law.
