Dispatches received at Savannah,
Georgis, yesterday, from Bluftton, South
Carolina, state that three men, named
Mantollin, Kent and Slicsr, were
wounded and captured by negroes on

prisoners by Montollin. Their offense
was an attempt to recover bis lands and
collect his rents from the negio tenants.

tee estimate that they will require one

In Tamarack swamp, seven miles south
east of Lockport, have been burning since
Monday. Numbers ot bousea, fences,
crops and stock have been destroyed. It
is feared the fire will spread to Bolarla.
Farmers are fleeing with tbelr stock and
fnrnitnre. The C re In Kaat Albion is re
ported to be subdued, but another broke
out a few miles north of that place. The
loss since Sundsy at Albion amounts to
$90,000. Ten houses, two dour mills, and
fifteen hundred cords of wood were

The Chinese in California take kind
ly to the manners ot the country in which
they have cast their lot, Yesterday an
officer of Los Angeles, namsd Bilderaine,
penetrated the Chinese quarter of the
town to arrest one of their number for
hooting another. He was accompanied
by a citizen named Thompson, whom he
had summoned to aid him. After they
had progressed far enough into the dirty,
narrow street to render escape almost Im
possible, the Chinese opened fire from the
houses on both sides of the street, in
stantly killing Thompson and aeverely
wounding the officer, who escaped by
mounting a horse and running another
gauntlet of bullet. A Mexican boy
named Jose Maadero was shot through
the leg in the melee. A mob soon collect
ed, and a-tacked the Chinese, and though
atoutly resisted by the Johns, succeeded
in hanging fifteen ot them, and driving
the remainder oat of town. The bouses
frornghich the bullets came In greatest

extinguished before any buildings besides
these were burned. A number of Chinese
were afterward caught and locked up.
