CmeerwNATI, Nov. 4—A special dispatch to The Chronicle from Portemouth says a terrible explosion took place this morning at the rallroad depot. The mail train going East stood at the depot, and while the fireman was taking coal the locomotive boiler exploded. George Valk ner, who was engaged in shoveling coalfrom the car, was blown 60 feet in the alr, and fell dead 200 yards distant. Adam Schilling, fireman, was also instantly killed—the top of his head having been blown off. Henry Burt, fireman, and Adam Wamsler were injured. Fragments of the boiler, weighing from 80 to 50 pounds, were blown several squares, and fell through the roofs of houses on BSecond st.; some passed over the wharf-boat, and dropped into the river. The front of the boller was blown forward, and buried in the roar end of the express car. The boller had just been patched up, was 20 years old, and con sidered in bad condition. The depot was badly wrecked.
