The telegraph reports from this place
would be amusing, if they were not eo per
nicious to the state. A daily scribbler for
k democratic organ (which ia engaged in
apologizing for murderers and their deeds)
makes his statements out in the daytime and
prinla it io the democratic Gazette; at
night he copies the falsehoods or supposi
tions, and telegraphs the same as facts, in
his position as press reporter. This is how
our dispatches are made up at this point

The reports now in the hands of Gover
nor Hadley show that the excesses thst
have been so readily telegraphed and pub
lished, have never taker) place in Lake Vil
lage *r Chicot county, ^’l'ho three murder
ers were taken from the jail and shot, and
the people returned to their homes without
molesting any one. The report that three
hundred armed negroes bad gone to assist
the mob,’’ was untrue, and probably had its
origination in some busy press reporter’s

We see is the New Orleans Republican of
the 23d, a telegram to the effect that Gover
nor Hadley had taken no action in the Chicot
riots. This was st the time utterly false,
ss the g :veruor promptly commanded the
authorities to proceed to the place and pre
serve order. The same action was immedi
ately taken that is usually found necessary
for the preservation of order in the other
Kuklug raids, and thus the press reporter
who telegraphed thst Gorernor Hadley had
taken no action, telegraphed a falsehood.
THE CCHSE OP THE IOITH.
There ia no doubt but what the action of
the democracy, since the quashing of the
rebellion, has been a curse to the southern
states. The democracy havo fostered mob
law, and they have been the foremost in
committing every deed of violence in the
south. Wherever a riot occurs, the rosder
may safely assert, ss a rule, thst the de
mocracy commenced it. If an infraction of
the law is heralded, the reader can he cer
tain that the democracy is either st the
beginning of it, or else a democratic sym
pathizer. They commit murder and try to
lay it on to other parties. They burn down
buildings and say the boys did it.” There
is nothing they have not attempted since
their idol Lee was whipped out by General
Gfant. Their last thing was the Memphis
■nesting. The Memphis people will, one
day, learn thst Arkansas can go alone now,
and we are not so much tied to Memphis
ss we were, and still leas to Memphis de
mocracy. In fact, from the actions of
dsmocraoy, ’possum or lively, j“good Lord
deliver us.”

I in Like Village, of which Mr. Barbour was
partially a witness.
It seems that a dispute had arisen between
Wynn and Banders, while in a grocery store
belonging to Garrett.- One called the other
a thief, and the other called the one a liar.
Meantime, Wynn, thinking that all passion
was over, went to the courthouse, and, after
transacting his business, returned across to
Garrett’s store, for the purpose of getting a
cigar. Immediately on entering, a quarn 1
was commenced by Sanders, and followed
up by the trio until Wynn was fatally cot
in the neck by Sanders. Garrett handed
tho knife, Dugan held the door, preventing
egress or ingress, and preventing Wynn per
sonally from getting out or any one elae from
entering the store until the murder was com
mitted. Wynn died almost inatantly after
no was cut, ana the murderers—Sanders,
Dugan and Garrett—were lodged in jail.
There were threat! made by the residents
that thoy were to make a jail delivery, and
liberate Dugan, Sanders and Garrett,'and the
Colored people, fearing that justice upon the
murderers would be defeated, went to the
jail and took the, men Garrett, Sanders and
Dugan out and shot them.
N'o people can deprecate mob law, or riots,
or lynch law, more than the good and peace
able citizens of this state. Vet.it must be
acknowledged that these unfortunate men
brought their evil down upon their heads,
Garrett was a known desperado, and was in
the habit of whipping every "yankce” who
came into his neighborhood, and many mur
ders had already been committed by him
for which he had escaped justice until the
present.
We understand that civil action is to be
commenced against all those who can be
identified as having transgressed the law.
A meeting was held laat Tuesday tnon.ing
by the good citizens of all parties, and reso
lutiona drawn up requesting United States
troops to be sent for the protection of all
parties. It remains to be stated that no
outrages as described by the Memphis pa
pers have been committed; and tho only ex
cess was upon the store of Garrett, and that
affairs are very quiet amongst ill parties.
Mr. Barbour also informs us that the United
States troops are desired by all parties, as
they are afraid of each other. It is to be
sincerely hoped that such deeds of violence
ma^neverajan^bejiergetratedi^hestate.
