The com mittee recommended the adoption of several resolution* upon the education of young men to the ministry, the-upport of the American Edu cation society, the support of the theological sem inaries ami Congregational colleges. consecration of children to the mim*trv. and encouragement of young men to enter the ministry. Those reso lutions einbodled the main points of the paper which had Wen referred to the committee, and were adopted by the council. Rev. Dr. Kotchel. Chairman of the rommlttee which had Won appointed bv the council to take into consideration the relation of the churches to theological seminaries, presented a report in the form of resolutions, the adoption of which wa* re commended by the committee. The resolution* were upon the value of theological seminaries in training men for wotk in the home and foreign missions the duties of churches in support of such seminaries. and the wisdom o rcstabiishinc and sustaining not a great number of seminaries, but a few judi ciously distributed and completely endowed in all respects for their perfect work. The matter o theological seminaries was one of great interest to all members. A discussion of some length took place. At half-past J, and the discussion still going on at that time, a v#te upon the adoption of the res olutions was not taken, but the council mUourncd the session until evening. Then at half-past 3. in accordance with previous announcement, the exercises of laying the corner !-ione were commenced. The exercises were held intho same house, and were opened by p-nyer by Her. I>r. Barrows, and singing, in which the whole congregation twk part. President J. If. Fairchild, of Oberllu College, then gave a history of the origin, progress, and present condition of the Oberlin Theological Seminary, the corner stone of who-e prospective building they were about to lay. He said that the semina ry had its origin with the commencement of the college, and had grown up with It; that it had now grown to «ueh dimensions ttiat a new and commodious building was demanded- Ho gave a description of thoprojHjged building, its cost. U>- cilil>*. and the amount needed to cnabl them to push it on to an early completion.
