resent all manner of outrages ponding the suits
of tho Eureka Mining Company re, the King Da
vid and May Henrietta Mining Companies, Two
witnesses lor the defendants were assailed with
slung-shois and badly injured, night before hist,
and an hour or two later the Buperiut indent of
the May Henrietta was shot at twice, narrowly
escaping with his life. The miners almost unani
mously espouse the May Henrietta cause.

Hemy Barkdall, Sr., for murdering his wife, near
this place, in May last, commenced In tho Circuit
Court, In this place, to-day, before Hla Honor,
Judge Lowery. Barkallls a Gorman, about 65
years of age. His victim was Ids second wife,
with whom he had lived unhappily for about
thirty years, and who hud been totally blind for
nearly half of that period. Ho alleges that she
was unfaithful to him. and he avenged himself by
kicking her to death. The people are
ciDfcideiably excited over tho matter,
and await the m<uit of the trial with
much eagerness. Tho attorneys, both for an I

timony thus far shows that the murder was en
tirely unprovoked, a id proves the murderer to bo
a fiend incarnate. There are yet about ten wit
ness's to be examined, Including the physicians

body of the murdered woman. Barkdall mani

The Chattanooga Fire.
Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 13—Fire broke out at 1
o’clock a. m. on Sunday at Chattanooga, in the

burned. The houses burned embraced all classes
o! merchants and business men. Fortunately the
stocks of goods and merchandise were not heavy
