Amid such a deluge of disasters as have rained upas this community at large, there would teem to be little time to weep over individual calami ties. There was one, however, occurring yester day morning, over which many tears have been tbed—t°ars of sorrow and of bitter indignation. Colonel Thomas W. Grosvenor, tfao city Prose cuting Attorney, was shot dead about half post 12 o’clock yesterday morning, by one ot the members of ibe University patrol guard. The deplorable event bos created a pro found excitement throughout tho city. The deceased was well known and much esteemed by every ono, and tbo thought left manner in which he came by fats death, growing out of ibe present disturbed condition of municipal affairs, has occasioned a strong feeling regarding the manner in which onr semi military protectors have been permitted to dis charge their duties. It appears that Colonel Grosvenor had been spending the evening at the bouse of bis friend, Mr. Justice Banyon, who. about 11 o’clock, ac companied him to the 6tatostreet car. Betook a Twenty-fifth street car, that being the only one, at that hoar, which would take him near to his homo at Bryant place. From Twenty-fifth street he wes walking quietly along Cottage Grove avenue, and had reached the University, which is about two blocks from his house. It was alright moonlight evening, ond there were no persons on tho street at that time. As he passed the grounds of the University ono of the patrols stationed there commanded him to haltaad givo the countersign- Ho paid no attention to the mandate, and walked on. when the guard called to him again, and threatened t» fire. Grosvenor returned a careless an swer-such as he might have done under ordinary circumstances, telling the patrol to M bang away and be hanged to him." The patrol fired. Tnc hall struck Grosvenor on the left arm, passing through the tenth rib. through the stomach, and lodging in the liver, lie stag gered and fell on the sidewalk, near the corner of Douglas place.
