We have talked with not less than fifteen or eighteen prominent bankers, and find a disposition on the part of several of them to resume business us usual, paying checks of their depositors for nil reasonable sums within ihe amount of the balances duo thorn. The Merchants' National and several other* may possi bly adopt this coun*o. They nflinn positively their ability at piy every dollar of their deposit* wtlhln sixty day*, and express their willingness losubmit to the unquestionable right of theirdeposltnrs to check om their entire balances, but earnestly hope they will not adopt n policy that would be fraught with such harm to nil. If the hanks could receive from their defaulters some assurances of their confidence and their disposltiou to sustain the hauks.lt would go a great way to ward re-establishing business. One important question arises in regard to out standing checks drawn on Saturday, the Tth. and ihat would, in the ordinary course of business, have gone through the clearings on Monday morn ing had it not been for the fire. We have conversed with a number of prudent bankers ou this subject, who are of the opinion that these checks should be paid in full.—ln other words, that they should go through tho clearing house as though no fire had occurred. These checks arc now hold by the banks against each oilier, and ought to bo balanced off against caph other. It womd take comparatively little money to do this, and would got one obstacle out of the way of the resumption ot business.
