The Uniform Arrived.
The uniforms ordered f or the Mem
phis League Baseball Club arrived last
night, and were distributed to the
plavers. They are very tuteful in
design, and Manager Sneed dic'ures
that taey are the handsomest in the
Southern League. The players piac
ttced hard yesterday on their new
grounds, and will meet for practice
again this morning snd in the even
ing. Ttiey leave for Nashville to
night, and will make a desperate
effort to win from Nashville to
morrow, though the latter club
has been practicing very hard
ever since t lie Ut of the month, while
the Memphis boys have tied no such
opportunity, on account of the do'ay
in getting the grounds ready. Manager
Sneed says the Park will be as good ai
any in the League. The grand stsnd,
which will seat 900 persons, and the
25-cent stand, which will accommo
date about 300 more, will be ready for
the game with Nashville next Tues
day. The street-car line will be fin
ished by April 1st.

Another fashionable and apprecia
tive audience greeted this admirable
a'tUte at the Memphis Theater last
night. The many beauties of the
play, and Mile. Rhea's exquisite in
terpretation of the leading tola have
heretofore been fully dwelt upon in
these columns, and need not be re
ferred to again. To-night and to
morrow night Augustin Daly's latest
New York success will be given, with
Mile. Rhea in the role of "Peggy
Thrift." It is a delightful comedy in
three acts, written by Win, Wycherly,
an English dramatist of the Nine
teenth century, and sparkles with wit
and bright dialogue, ltwai originally
produced under tbe name o! Tlu
Country ll'ie, at the Royal Theater,
Drury lane. In this country a recon
structed version, by Garrick, was first
presented at the od John Street
Tbea'er, in New York, in 17S9. Mr.
Augustin Daly, whose talent at
adapta'.ion amounts almost to genius,
remodeled the play for his theater
latt season, using tbe pruning knife
liberally, and producing a play
fall of Wycheily's art, without
any of his courseness and ribaldry.
The play male an instantaneous bit
in New York, and proved to be one of
tbe most successful of Daly's clever
adaptations. Miss Ada Rohan, the
almirable leading lady of Daly's The
ater, owni the iiht to produce the
play outside of New York Cify, but
has consented to allow Mile. Rhea to
prcduce it under Mr. MorriB
eey's management, feeling, doubt
less, that it conld not be entrusted
to better hands. Wherever Mile.
Rhea has played tbe part it is recog
nized as one of tbe most charming
imperii onations in ber repeitoire, and
our theatre-goers, attracted both by
curiosity and anticipation of a de
lightful evening, will donbtlees flock

attractions, and every perform

three minutes and a half, which is
wonderful, especially when one con
siders that he does this every hour
from 1 to 6 o'clock p.m., and from 7 to
10 o'clock. Idaletta,"the water queen,"
seems not less of an amphibian than
her partner, and the feats of both are
very interesting. In the upper halls
"Demon'o" continues to lunch oft' of
flaming jot take mouthfula of molten
leal and boiling oil, and concludes
his salam andrin acts by a vigorous
dance on a red-hot iion plate. "Dr."
Ah Food bat always something new in
his sleijtht-of-hand repertory to ctl'er
to his audiences. .The entire act is
amusing, but his verbal descriptions
are the lunniest part of it. The tun
ing up of the fiddle with two strings
occupies as much t'uu as the popular
Chinese melody which tbe musician
thereafter plays. No one has so far
succeeded In catching the words of the
song. "Quite-ee couitnon song ev-ly
body sing in Chinee silent" (street),
but everybody laughs while Ah Foon
sing. Crosman,the Yankee whittler, is
really very iDgenions with his jack
knife. In fifteen minutes he chips out
a very pretty pair of seizors from pine
and makes many other articles, such
ai ladies love to decorate with paint
and hang wfth ribbon.

and his word was good for thousands.

and whose lecture on the ''Life and
Works of St. Paul" made such a pro
found impression, is about to give a
series of three lectures at the F'irst
Baptist church on Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday, the 23d, 25th and 20 :h of
this month, under the auspices of the
Young Men's Christian Assoiialinn.
The Btibiectl to be treated are "The
Messiah, or as Mr. Garden named
his lecture on this grand aubjoct,"Our
King;" "frit. Paul," under the title of
"A Soldier ol the Crocs." aud Alfred
Tennyson, called by tha lecturer "God
and the Poet." This is an opportun
ity which seldom presents itself
whereby students, not ooly of the
Old and New Testament, but those in
terested in the history of past ages,
can gather as much information, placed
before them in the most entor
lainingform and in glowing iangusge,
in the hour mid a half taken by tie lec
turer to deliver his stirring orations, as
they could possibly, even if they were
able to obtain access to the documents
and authorities used by Mr. Garden in
his caieftil research iniothe innermost
depths of the subject undor consldoia

arduous up hill work. Then again,
Mr. Garden in his discourse on Tenny
son will nclude the poet's matter

this poem won, even from Tennyion

nyson's inner life and consciousness,
-as shown in his works, interpreted for
them by the light of Mr. Garden's

able "Aladdin's lamp," and leada the
hearer into regions before unknown

concerning this particular lecture:

Bishop of Manchester, in one of his
speeches in Exter Hall, London, on
the subject of "Stage and Pulpit,"
referred to Mr. Garden as one of the
instances of deep religious feeling and
dramatic genius combined. Tbe

hoped that the church will be crowded
